What do you want others to know about lupus?

Lupus does not discriminate, it impacts all of our lives. It comes in like a fury and devastates people's lives everyday! No one is safe, not the young or old, not the black or white, not the rich or the poor. The best thing you can do for yourself and others around you is to educate yourself about the disease.

Why is lupus a cruel mystery to you?

Lupus has impacted every area of my life! 11 years ago when I was diagnosed I was scared, nobody knew about it and felt as if there was no one that understood. I had a new baby, newly married, a full time job and loved life. I tried to stay positive, but it was very difficult. The disease was too much for my husband to handle, so my marriage failed. I had full custody of my son, but had to give that up 2 years ago because I could not stay out of the hospital long enough to take full care of him. I had a full time job that I was no longer able to do. I felt like my life was over. Then one day I realized life is what you make of it, and I love life way too much to give up. Everyday I wake up and make a choice to live life to the fullest. It is hard, believe me, it is very hard, but it is possible. I am involved in many community charities, involved in my son's school, have a love life, and do what I can when I can. I struggle to stay positive, but I will not let this beat me! Not now, not ever!!
