What do you want others to know about lupus?

Lupus is a life threatening autoimmune disease that can affect different organs of the body, however with proper treatment, great family and friends, wonderful doctors and your trust and faith in God you can live a normal life!

Why is lupus a cruel mystery to you?

Lupus affected my life at the age of 18. Off to college and far away from home, i started getting symptoms during Christmas break but ignored the symptoms as tylenol and motrin alleviated the pain..for a little while! After a wonderful first year and me packing up to go home for the summer i had pain in my back that was unbearable. Appetite starting to get different and being very dehydrated, i still ignored the symptoms because I knew I was healthy. This was just something a little antiobiotics would cure. NOT! After learning of my diagnosis of lupus nephritis in June 2002, it was very hard for me to deal with especially after finding out there was no cure and I could possibly die from this. After numerous chemotherapy treatments, high doses of prednisone and taking 17 pills a day, I told myself, Lupus will not control me! After 10 years, im doing well, only 3 medications that im taking on a daily basis and rituxan treatments every six months to keep the flares down. It definitely has made me look at life different but I dont give up. I stay strong for my 3 beautiful children which doctors told me that I wouldnt be able to have. I have a decent job and wonderful people who love me and supports me through this ordeal!
