What do you want others to know about lupus?

People are always shocked that I had two angioplasties and a cardiac stent by the age of 36. I’m told, “You look too young.” And that’s the point – it’s not normal. This invisible disease called lupus is a deceiver on all counts; it’s difficult to diagnose, a challenge to live with, and always a surprise to those who don’t know I have it.

Why is lupus a cruel mystery to you?

Lupus has kept me from doing some things that I want to do, but it has changed my perspective. My heart is tender toward others who are sick and suffering. I spend my spare energy and time volunteering to help others affected by lupus.
