What do you want others to know about lupus?

That it is not a death sentence. That just because I look fine, doesn't mean I am. I am not lazy, I am trying my best to make the most of each day. That means choosing to play with my 3 yr old, working in my garden, enjoying time with my boys, and doing my best not to feel guilty over that laundry mountain, or the unmade bed.

Why is lupus a cruel mystery to you?

I have to remember not to take on too much, even if I feel good at the moment. This illness is unpredictable, and planning needs to be so much more flexible. I have only so much energy on any given day, and that is a mere fraction of what I had prior to having lupus. Letting go of some dreams, finding new ones, is an emotional challenge. Some people in my life will never understand. And some will try very hard to. I know what is important to me. I know who holds me through it all.
