What do you want others to know about lupus?

Despite medical advances, too little is known about Lupus, and there are no cures. Patients need to rely on a combination of diet and medications with difficult side effects in order to minimize symptoms. We have a long way to go, and the 5 million people living with this are praying that one day there will be a cure.

Why is lupus a cruel mystery to you?

I noticed joint swelling, pain and stiffness a few months after giving birth to my daughter. At times it was difficult to hold, nurse, or get down on the floor to play with her and my son. After many blood tests I found out that I have lupus, which I'm trying to come to terms with. I'm doing everything I can to stay healthy for my kids (now 8m and 2), my husband, myself, and for my congregation. Right now I am doing fairly well, though I have no idea what the future may bring.
