What do you want others to know about lupus?

Living with Lupus is a very scary journey that may periodically require lifestyle changes. By no means do I intend to say accommodate the Lupus. Accommodate yourself. Your health comes first but quality of life is almost as equally important. Because Lupus affects so many people so very differently, you sort of have to prepare yourself for alternative situations...

Why is lupus a cruel mystery to you?

Lupus is a cruel mystery to me because I wake up every day not knowing what aches and pains I will have for that day. Also Lupus can cause things that you completely cannot control. My Lupus (I own it and since it affects me in its own way, I use the words “my Lupus”) caused me to have a transient ischemic attack (stroke) at 39 years old, which left my whole left side temporarily paralyzed. Rehabilitation has helped me incredibly, but my Lupus continues to make my recovery difficult. The side effects of the many medications that are given to me to help subdue my Lupus symptoms have also interfered with my recovery from the stroke. I wake up everyday not knowing what to expect and fearful that something horrible is happening inside of me that I currently have no symptoms from.
