What do you want others to know about lupus?

Lupus causes many struggles: externally and internally. We each face these struggles differently because of the way Lupus interacts with our bodies. I want people who have Lupus and support loved ones with Lupus to know that there is a community of people who care. Although the origins of Lupus has not been discovered, each day we make progress to a better life.

Why is lupus a cruel mystery to you?

Lupus has changed the chemical reactions within my body beyond what I would have ever expected. Before my diagnosis I never had to be concerned about my eating habits or the chemicals and scents that I was exposed to. I never had to worry about vaccinations or medications. After my diagnosis and within the past 3 years, everything I once did in my past life has been altered. I can no longer eat foods containing gluten/wheat, soy, corn, dairy, nitrates or eggs. I am sensitive to all scents and topical lotions. Additionally, I have severe reactions to medications and antibiotics (full body hives and a trip to the ER/ICU). I have had to take large precautions in school and in my life to make sure the people around me know what needs to be done. I have since added a medical bracelet to my fashion because I worry about the struggles I will potentially face. Lupus has also branched into my additional autoimmune diagnosis of Hashimoto's, Arthritis and Celiac.
